Regular Meeting Minutes-October 7, 2009
Board Members in Attendance:
President: Melissa Opsahl
Vice President: Monica Hobbs
Treasurer: Becky Chelberg
Secretary: Rita Ferdon
Meeting was called to Order by President Melissa
Opsahl at 3:34 p.m.
Agenda Approval:
Motion was made by Dawn Adams to approve the agenda. It was seconded by
Becky Chelberg. There were no comments, questions or additions. It was
passed unanimously with 12 votes to approve the agenda.
Meeting Minutes Approval:
Melissa Opsahl asked for approval of the meeting minutes from the last
PTC meeting held in September 2009. Dawn Adams moved to approve the minutes,
and Monica Hobbs seconded the motion. Meeting Minutes were then approved
unanimously with 13 votes.
Treasurer’s Report: Becky Chelberg reported
that the checking account balance is currently $8602.47 with total pending
expenses of $5235.03.
Old Business:
Shed: Melissa Opsahl reported that items that were previously stored in
a shed at Mormon Emigrant School have now been relocated to the existing
shed behind Mrs. Bunce’s classroom. The shed is being shared, and
the contents have been organized.
Kindergarten Readiness Camp Refund:
Melissa Opsahl announced that we have received the check in the amount
of $1200 back from Principal Haslam for the support of next year’s
Kindergarten Readiness program. The money we had donated last year never
had to be tapped into due to money provided by First 5 for this program.
Principal Haslam indicated they would most likely need only $200-$300
rather than $1200. We will place this money back into our account, and
revisit the amount needed when necessary.
PTC Info Center:
Melissa Opsahl announced that Phil and/or Kevin put our PTC information
bulletin board up between classrooms #1 & #2. Secretary Rita Ferdon
decorated the bulletin board, and added some information to the board.
It was determined that the upkeep of the bulletin board would fall to
the secretary, and the information would be updated regularly. Melissa
Opsahl & Jill in the office each have a set of keys for the bulletin
board.
New Business
Halloween Carnival:
We were approached by the Community Center to help with the Halloween
Carnival. We would have needed about 10-12 volunteers to make it work.
Because of the short notice, and PTC members wanting to “trick-or-treat”
with their young children, President Melissa Opsahl spoke for our group
and told them we could not find the needed volunteers to help out this
year.
Funding Requests:
Mrs. Price and Mrs. Smith both requested their $200 to be used for a field
trip to the Sacramento Train Museum. Becky Chelberg motioned to approve
funding in the amount of $400. Rita Ferdon seconded the motion. Motion
passed unanimously with 15 votes.
Mrs. Ball, Mr. Hirsch, Mrs. Hargon and Mrs. Turner
each requested their $200 to be used for unspecified field trips during
the 2009/2010 school year. Colleen Youngblood motioned to approve funding
in the amount of $800. Dawn Adams seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously
with 15 votes.
Mr. Klotz requested funding in the amount of $130.00
to be spent on a ¾ size guitar to be used by both the instructor,
and the students in his special education classroom. Colleen Youngblood
motioned to approve funding in the amount of $130. Monica Hobbs seconded
the motion. Motion passed unanimously with 15 votes.
Sports Boosters requested funding in the amount
of $275 to cover costs for Cross Country T-shirts for Pinewood students.
Monica Hobbs motioned to approve funding in the amount of $275. Colleen
Youngblood seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously with 15 votes.
Donation Requests:
Pollock Pines Elementary School District Nurse, Patricia Naylor, requested
help from PTC in providing snacks for students participating in the Kung-FLU
Fighters immunization clinic. Treasurer Becky Chelberg stated that she
and her family would supply the needed snacks.
The Pinewood “Clothing Closet” is in
need of donations of clean underwear, pants & socks to be loaned to
children in the event of an “accident” at school. Melissa
invited members to bring items to the ladies in the office. Many members
indicated they would donate.
Committee Review & Calendar of Events:
Monica Hobbs presented a tentative Calendar of Events, and asked for volunteers
to help with events. The group focused on November/December activities
to start. There was very productive, informal brainstorming and it was
decided that we would hold a “Winter Ball/Carnival” the first
week of December. The majority felt an event that close to the holidays
should be held on a weeknight, rather than a weekend when so many people
have existing plans. Tentatively, we will provide a spaghetti feed, a
baked goods sale, crafters tables, a kickoff to our “Christmas Store”,
and our “Christmas Families” tree. Details will need to be
worked out by the involved committees. It was discussed that the Spaghetti
Feed be a cost of $7.00 for adults, $5.00 for children, with a maximum
price of $20.00 per family of four or more.
Cookie Dough:
Discussed running cookie dough fundraiser through member Stephanie Williams.
Box Tops/Campbell’s Soup Labels:
Rita Ferdon is chairing this committee, and has begun a Box-Tops collection
contest running from October 1st until the 31st. All Box Tops must be
postmarked by the 31st in order to receive the disbursement check in December.
Member Donated Service:
Pong Foletta, a new PTC member, approached PTC with an idea to allow her
to be involved. Because of a language barrier, Pong does not feel comfortable
volunteering where she needs to talk, however, she is an excellent seamstress,
and would like to donate a portion of her labor proceeds to PTC. She handed
out business cards, and invited teachers to call upon her if they needed
aprons, or help with costumes etc.
By-Laws:
Lauren Wascher, chair of the by-laws committee, asked for a few volunteers
to go over the by-laws this week. Colleen Youngblood, and Sharee Price
agreed to meet to discuss changes to the by-laws.
Teacher Appreciation:
Next Teacher Appreciation luncheon will be held on October 28th. Colleen
Youngblood will be calling people to provide items for this luncheon.
Public Comment:
Cyndi Sbranti brought up concerns about the swings. She also commented
that the water fountain has been fixed, and is working great.
Adjourn Dawn Adams motioned to adjourn the meeting,
and Sharee Price seconded the motion. Meeting was adjourned at 4:36 p.m.
